Suzanne’s art career began at age ten when Clark School
in Paducah, Kentucky, selected her to paint three 20-foot
murals depicting major historical events. In 2005, she
completed a 55-foot commissioned mural. Because of her
academic achievements at Tulane University in New
Orleans, Louisiana, she was allowed to design her own
major program called Interdepartmental Studies in Art and
Physics; focusing on studio art and laser holography. She
received Bachelor's and Master's degrees with honors, in
the Science of Creative Intelligence from MERU
Switzerland. Suzanne did Masters and PhD work in
France, Italy, Switzerland, India, and Thailand. She also
studied art with Emmy award winner Ning Yeh.
Charity Work
Suzanne B. Stryker has been doing charity work since the age
of 13. She has done volunteer work for the American Red
Cross, the American Heart Association, the American Cancer
Association, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and other
charities. At age 16, she was elected Assistant Charity
Chairman and then at age 17 was elected Chairman for an
organization devoted to raising funds for local and national
charities, inspiring youth to volunteer, and collecting food for
families going through hardships.
Also at age 16, Suzanne was appointed Sweetheart by the
Key Club whose function was to help local charities and to
beautify the city. She was again appointed Sweetheart the
following year and so continued her dual charity roles. Since
the age of 18, Suzanne has done extensive volunteer work for
various nonprofit educational organizations in North America,
Asia, and Europe.
Suzanne feels that society can only be as strong as its
weakest link, so she is committed to helping those in need.
Project Help is an example of this.
How She Paints
Conversant in a variety of styles and mediums to suit her
commissioned projects, Suzanne usually paints with oils or
acrylics. In order to produce luminous colors, she often
uses time consuming glazing techniques, painting
numerous thin layers of transparent paint.
Suzanne usually prefers to paint in a spontaneous and
intuitive manner. Often, she takes a blank canvas and
just starts painting. While that can be more challenging
than working from a carefully thought out drawing, she
finds it more rewarding. She says: "Unexpected and
beautiful things happen that I just couldn't have planned. I
find it exhilarating to let the creative forces of the universe,
of God, flow through me. I like to explore new horizons
and experiment. For me, painting is a wonderful exercise
in trust, intuition, surrender, and Self discovery. Daily
yoga and meditation provide the foundation from which I
create."
Art Awards
Suzanne has received nineteen art awards, as well as
the highest art honor from Tulane University.
Charitable Contributions
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of her art goes to
Amnesty International, International Campaign for Tibet, the
Southern Poverty Law Center, the Innocence Project, MUM,
and the Justice Policy Institute.
In the News
In the past few years, the Associated Press and over fifty
newspapers and TV stations have covered Suzanne's art .
From Senator Becky Schmitz: "Another person who
believes in the power of volunteerism is artist Suzanne
Stryker of Fairfield. After three of her paintings were stolen
and then anonymously returned, Suzanne started Project
Help in an attempt to reach out to the person who took the
artworks. Suzanne's hope is that this Project Help will create
a community model of prevention and inspire others to lend a
helping hand. Suzanne said that If we can prevent even one
person from getting ensnared in our prison system--that
would be worth our while."

Comments:
"Suzanne Stryker is a phenomenal artist. I have
several of her paintings, they are very soothing and
peaceful. Her delicate attention to detail is so much
more breathtaking than you can imagine just by looking
at pictures on a website. If Oprah isn't the one to make
her famous, someone will. Her talent is far too great for
it not to be noticed and appreciated outside of Iowa...
her paintings would be a good investment."
